One of Apple's earlier computers, before the days of the Macintosh. It was quite a popular little machine and had some fairly colourful games written for it, and was a typical 8 bit home micro of the day.
Virtu
is a freeware emulator from Digital Jellyfish design (Nick
Westgate and Sean Fausett),
that emulates an 128K Apple //e computer. It emulates a 6502 or 65C02 processor
and can support standard or enhanced //e ROMs. It can run Apple ROMs or
disk images, and was distributed widely on the October 1997 Acorn User
cover disk. There is full sound support, and even text printer support,
and the emulator has a full memory disassembler built in.
This emulator comes with a built in Raster Blaster pinball game (see the scaled down screenshot on the right), as the functionality of the emulator is reduced by having a partially disabled ROM image provided for copyright reasons, you should obtain the standard image you should download it below. The 2nd screenshot is of Wasteland running under Virtu.
The
emulator even runs at full speed on my A5000, and I'm pleased to say that
the built in game, is actually quite playable! Unfortunately the emulator
can only load .DSK images, and not commonly distributed .NIB images,
there is a little program written in C++ for the PC, that can convert NIB
to DSK, Michael Koenig
has converted it to ANSI C, and compiled it for the Acorn, and it's available
below.

Woz
is an Apple][ emulator, written back in 1992 by Benoit
Gilon, who wrote the emulator to run Apple][ applications rather than
games. As such the emulation is not nearly as perfect as that of Virtu,
but it runs text based programs pretty well. It has a good advantage in
that it can also be run in a window via a front end, which is something
Virtu cannot do. The source code for the program (ANSI C) is provided,
and anyone is welcome to modify it, generously Benoit is willing to offer
any support he can. The screenshot on the right is of Woz running Copy
][ Plus in a window via the front end.
