Less than 2 weeks to go and...
The first version of STem, the Atari ST emulator by Sam Ellis has been released on 8/12/97, this is a beta version, and it is still in development. I've added some info about the first release on the ST page. I've also added the STem icon to the ST page, updates of STem should be fairly frequest from now on - I'll keep you up to date with developments.
I've also managed to get hold of a copy of the Arthur OS emulator, thanks to Martin Kaletsch, a superb novelty emulator, and now available almost exclusively from this site!
A new version, 0.29.2 of the arcade emulator MAME has been released for the acorn, with a few bug fixes (sorry, no new games added), mainly to solve the file loading problems under RISC OS 3.5 and 3.6, though I'm told some other new bits are added too. This has also therefore solved Ulrik Smed's problem with MAME. I added a little bit of information about the forthcoming Turbo module for MAME that I gleaned from the MAME docs. Also on the subject of MAME, there have been some complaints about the sound quality in MAME 0.29.X, this is not Gareth's fault, and is present in all ports of this version of MAME. Apparently this will be fixed for 0.30.X, but in the meantime, version 0.28.X will be available from the ARM MAME page.
Having seen the vast number of emulation sites for other platforms, and being fed up of seeing 'comprehensive' emulation sites with emulators for PC, Mac, Unix, even Amiga but not Acorn, I've decided to try and raise awareness about Acorn emulation by emailing the webmasters of these sites, and telling them to look at this one, and add info about Acorn Emulators. I'd appreciate it if you could do the same! I've added a link to Dave's Classic Gaming page.
I'm also looking for any more emulators for the PC, other than the Psion3, that will run on the Acorn PC Emulator, either the software emulator, or with a PC Card. Please don't email them to me, but I'd appreciate it if you could tell me if they work, and what sort of performance you get, and I'll include the info on a future page. Does KGen, Genecyst, NO$GBem, ESNES, massage, PaCifiST, work under the PC Emulator?
I'm pleased to report that the rumour that Frodo, the C64 emulator, is no longer being developed is not true, although Andreas Dehmel, now has a full time job, so any future ports of Frodo may be a little delayed, after their initial release.
The Atari 2600 emulator, currently in development for low-end Acorn's, by Chris Meighan, has nearly complete 6502 emulation, and Chirs is now moving on to developing the emulation for the Stella video chip. So hopefully a release will not be too far off.
It appears that the PC Engine that Paul Clifford is developing is getting nearer to completion, no specific news just yet, but it should be coming our way in the next couple of months.
I've also just changed the background JPEG file, from the marbled white affair to this rather nice sand dune effect, tell me if you like it / hate it / didn't notice it :o)
