Christmas is getting closer (as if you hadn't noticed) and so are A level modules, but here's yet another large update to this page! Thanks to Michael Koenig for helping me update the speed rating for the Gameboy emulator, and Amiga emulator. Thanks to Ulrik Smed who wrote to me concerning the problem with 6502Em games, the message is on the problems page (sounds like a magazine for teenage girls). I've also added a page listing some of the top games that can be run under emulation. Added a link to 6502Em, removed a bad link to it, and added a link to ImageDFS. Finally decided to put the old versions of this news page in a ZIP file for download (if you're interested) as it gets slow downloading a page thats more than 20Kb long (of pure HTML). Geocities have decided to give all users an extra Mb of space (now upto 3Mb!!) so I may try and include more emulators locally, rather than having remote downloads. Added a link to the History of home computers page, thanks to Michael Koenig for telling me about this one. Added a link to the STonX page, a portable Atari ST emulator, which someone may fancy porting for use until STem is complete. Added an 'in development' page, with a list of emulators currently in development for the Acorn, which may or may not appear in the future. I've added links to a few Acorn FTP sites that have specific emulator areas. Also, there's now a solution to Ulrik Smed's problem with MAME. Added links to ARMEdit and WinRISC, and various other PC Card sites to the PC Emulation page.
Some bad news, is that the ARM club appear to be closing down their PD library, so I may not be able to get hold of some of the emulators mentioned in the last update :o( If you can help, please email me. I'm desperately trying to get hold of the Arthur12, and Woz (Apple][) emulators.
There is an Atari 2600 emulator in development for the Acorn, by Chris Meighan currently the emulator is only in the very early stages of development, but is being written for older Acorn machines in particular, ie. ARM 2!
I was taking a little look at the BBC Lives site, and came across an Archimedes Emulator for the PC, and one for Unix! Unable to believe my eyes, imaging images of a PC running Acorn software, I investigated, quite slow, but fairly impressive stuff, you can read more information on the Archimedes Emulators page.
I was also impressed to discover a Psion series 3 emulator, for the PC, that runs under Acorn's PC Emulator! I've collected some nice links to Psion software from the latest Acorn User, Christmas 1997 edition. Thanks to the ARM club for putting me on to this one!
There is a nasty rumour, that there are no more releases of the C64 emulator, Frodo coming, and therefore no more ports to the Acorn - I hope it's not true, but we'll have to wait and see. However, Steve Robbs has been experimenting with Frodo speed ups, done by tweeking options just so that an extra few % can be squeezed out. Nothing terribly impressive, but it does the job and some people may not have persevered with it. It's only to get a few extra percent out of it so that games run at 100% on the StrongARM rather than 97%. Unfortunately the tips may not make much difference on slower machines. I'll put the tips up here, as soon as Steve sends them to me.
