IMS Readers for PC Multimedia Software

Running PC multimedia CDs on your Risc PC x86 card may not always be the best solution. Innovative Media Solutions Ltd. are providing software readers to allow a wide range of multimedia PC titles to run natively under RISC OS. IMS sell the CDs together with the software reader on disk; alternatively people who already own the CD can buy the readers separately.

This means that it isn't even necessary to have an x86 card in your computer to run the software; and the CDs run much better natively than on a PC card or even on a real PC. The readers will work on the majority of RISC OS computers (and even remove the need for a 16-bit sound card on a Risc PC for sound support), with the exception, for most titles, of the A3000, A3010, A3020 and A4000. The minimum requirements for most of the titles to run properly are as follows:

Titles available include My First Incredible Amazing Dictionary, The Way Things Work, The Ultimate Human Body and P.B. Bear's Birthday Party from Dorling Kindersley, Dinosaurs and Musical Instruments from Microsoft (the latter will run on lower-spec machines), and Kiyeko and the Lost Night from Ubisoft, plus many others. For full details and prices, check the IMS web site.
