Caveat Emptor

A Buyers' Guide to the PC Market

If you are used to dealing with the companies of the Acorn market, then moving to the PC market can be something of a shock. Margins are tight, competition intense, and the companies are large. To protect against exploitation, the PC Buyer needs to be well-informed.

There is no way of escaping it, computers are complicated devices. Under Microsoft's leadership, the PC industry tries to hide this complexity behind confident statements and gross simplifications. Marketing and Engineering are combined to form plausible, but often misleading, product descriptions.

Hence the name Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware.

Due to the size of the PC market, this section relies more than any other on your contribution. There is no way that the regular Archive contributors can cover every company, every dealer, so we need your help. Share your experiences, both good and bad, so that others can make informed choices of where to spend their money.

Although we do not intend to review PC products - there are many other sites doing that - we would like to hear your opinions of your purchases. Does it surpass your expectations, or is there some limitation that was not explained? By sharing this information, pressure can be applied for improvements.
