The Archive Learners' Initiative was launched by Paul Beverley in October 1997, in response to criticism that Archive Magazine was too technical and did not cater for the ordinary Acorn user.
The first step was to restart the Beginners' Column, in abeyance for more than a year. Placed in the able hands of Ray Favre, it was renamed the Learners' Column to emphasise that even the most experienced have more to learn.
The Learners' Column is dedicated to the use of Acorn computers. It addresses some of the more obscure or less well-known features of RISC OS and the applications that run on it. Ray is guided by readers' queries as he explores the techniques that make using the computer easier and more productive.
In addition to the column, Paul has placed greater emphasis on introductory articles. Gerald Fitton's "Spreadsheets from the Beginning" and Tony Houghton's "Using Free Internet Software" are just two examples.
