Phoebe 2100: Compatibility Notice

Wakefield '98

Important Notice From Acorn

It is expected that RiscPC 2 will be able to run the majority of RISC OS titles with little or no modification, although some changes will be required (particularly in the area of service call handling in modules) to take full advantage of the machine's speed and updated call dispatch mechanisms.

Developers have been kept abreast of the specifications and APIs for the various OS software components throughout the machine's development cycle, and are aware of what (if anything) they need to do to make their software run at its best in the new environment. However, we have not been able as of yet to make production-spec Phoebe hardware available to them for testing; therefore they will not have definitive answers yet to questions regarding software compatibility and updates. As Knuth memorably put it, "I have not actually tried this code, I have merely proven it correct."

As was done with StrongARM, we expect to make available via www.acorn.com a list of known working software and patch details as and when formal testing on final prototypes can be carried out.
