The practitioner reference manual provides a set of additional resources for staff working in education, training or guidance with offenders. The resources will be of help to staff working in probation services, prisons, colleges, training schemes, careers and educational guidance agencies, and a range of support services.

The manual covers the guidance and education process from initial assessment to recording outcomes. It includes practical information on methodology, resources, and issues such as handling disclosure and managing risk. There are ten thematic sections which include within them:

  • introductory information
  • resource sheets - examples of materials in use, or relevant policy documents
  • handouts for clients or for use in staff training

The book is written by two authors working within the probation service who have wide experience of education, guidance and basic skills practice.

The book is supplied in ring binder format to facilitate photocopying.
