Is there an emulator for the <fill in a system here> on the
Acorn?
Quite possibly, check the Acorn Emulation page menu.
Is there an Acorn emulator for the PC?
Yes. Although it's a bit limited at the moment in what it can run,
and won't manage any RISC OS applications. However there is a
more competent Archimedes emulator for a Unix station, and an attempt was
being made to port it to Windows. There are a couple of very simple emulators
that can emulate just the BASIC interpreter and not much else.
More Information
Is there going to be a playstation/N64/Saturn emulator for the acorn?
No, at least not for a while yet. I'm not saying it's not possible,
it just won't be happening in the near future. Progress has been pretty
slow so far on emulators for these systems, even on the PC (which is often
years ahead of the Acorn in terms of emulation).
What about a SNES emulator?
Snes9X is now available for your
Acorn (and it is cool!)
When is the Megadrive emulator coming out?
I don't know, hopefully soon - if I hear anything I'll announce it
on this site.
Can you send me some ROMs/a particular ROM?
No, never, not even if you paid me - it's illegal! Though if you want
to send me some money anyway, I won't complain.
Can you add a link from your page to mine?
Yes, so long as it's relevent to acorn emulation.
Can you send me an email when the page is updated?
No, sign up to use the free automatic netmind service from the link
on the main front page.
Is there a PC emulator for the Acorn?
Acorn sold a commercial PC emulator and so did another small company,
but this only emulates an old 286. More recent software (anything in the
last 5 years or so) is likely to use the new instructions only available
in 386 and above, resulting in failiure to run on the emulator. If you
only want to run some very old DOS programs, it may be upto the job
(Word Perfect 5.1 works a treat) other than that you'll have to invest
in a PC card, especially for anything wanting windows.
<such-and-such an emulator> doesn't work, can you help?
I suggest you contact the author or porter of the emulator for advice.
(I'll still answer this question if I can, but often you can cut out the
middleman by contacting the author direct).
