Launched in 1995 as The Acorn Cybervillage, this is one of the longest-running news sites dedicated to those using Acorn or RISC OS computers. Originally launched by Stuart Halliday, it's now run by David Bradforth.
The Cybervillage contains a mix of commercial and non-commercial pages, with the aim to become a one-stop source of information on all things Acorn/RISC OS-related. It's one of the highest-rated sites for the term 'Acorn' on google, and this is perhaps due in part to its long-running heritage.
Over the years, The Cybervillage has won a number of awards, too:
- Awarded Best UK computer web site in Europe (1996)
- Awarded How to build a successful web site (1996)
- Voted by users - Best Commercial Web Site - Acorn Wakefield Show (1997)
- Voted by users - Best Commercial Web Site - Acorn Wakefield Show (1998)
- Placed in the New Zealand Top 3000 best web sites book (1998)
One of our services is the Noticeboard page, where anybody can place items for sale, wants, or even just comment on the state of affairs in the market. We'll provide free web space to anybody that wishes to add value to the Cybervillage (just email us via the link below); or low-cost space for companies wishing to advertise to a larger part of the RISC OS community.
With a focus on software and hardware developments that we believe of interest to the community as a whole, and a desire to bring a broader picture by linking to other RISC OS websites where applicable, we hope readers can get a clear take on any topic under discussion.
Email us with your input - it's always welcome, as are section editors to take responsibility for different parts of the site.
OTHER CYBERVILLAGES
The Cybervillage is not focused purely on RISC OS - we also have other areas available to readers on a number subjects. Other sites include:
- Vegetariana (a focus site for Vegetarians)
- NetFolio (with printing, photography and design resources)
- Personal Home pages
- 20/20 Vision (a modern art site)
- Railway (railway interest site)
